Milano's Review

by Kristine Hoskins
Director of Sales & Marketing, Midlands Restaurants

My family enjoyed a delicious meal at Milano's Family Restaurant & Lounge in Chapin tonight.

This is truly a friendly, family atmosphere, as everyone doted on my son (who loved the attention).

The soup today was catfish stew; it was thick and rich, and a little spicy. The Greek salad was full of feta cheese and fresh Greek dressing.

I ordered the Southern Comfort, and it truly was. A tender center-cut pork chop topped with skewer shrimp and apple chutney, with a side of cheese grits and the most flavorful roasted vegetables I have had in a long time. The pork was a wonderful balance between savory and sweet, and very satisfying.

My husband ordered the Seafood Alfredo, and couldn't eat more than half of it because it is so rich and filling. But the scallops, crab, and shrimp were so tender and fresh we are all looking forward to the leftovers.

And don't think there is nothing for the kids! My son's chicken fingers and fries were much better than most restaurants, because the chicken tenders are hand breaded to order and VERY tender (perfect for little mouths and moms too!).

Overall, Milano's Family Restaurant is truly a hidden treasure, but don't let the location scare you away! Take the short drive and try it for yourself!

Corky's Review

by Kristine Hoskins
Director of Sales & Marketing, Midlands Restaurants

My family and I enjoyed an outstanding meal at Corky's Ribs & BBQ located off Forest Drive (in the old Red Bone Alley). We walked in and were completely unprepared for how distinctive the inside looked!

The interior has been completely remodeled and has a unique Memphis street corner appearance, complete with a life-sized Elvis in the corner! Elvis music was playing on the speakers, adding to the unequivocally Memphis feel of the restaurant.

The service was quick and friendly, and had the food to my son within 6 minutes, much faster than most restaurants. Our food wasn't much longer, and absolutely delicious. I had the Corky's Combo, with a half rack of smoked ribs and chunks of beef brisket (that had been smoked for 9 hours - delicious!). This was served with two sides, and I selected the green beans and smashed red skinned potatoes. The ribs and brisket were fork tender with a delicious smoky flavor, and the potatoes were thick and creamy. Outstanding!

My husband had the Memphis Belle Chicken, and I kept stealing bites of his off his plate it was so good. That is two marinated chicken breasts, topped with sautéed mushrooms, bacon, and cheese. The flavor of the bacon and chicken together is something that is making my mouth water even thinking about it!

I was tortured with the aromas of our leftovers in the car on the way home. And we had enough left over for lunch the next day (and I still have one more meal from mine!) - so the portions are more than generous.

Try Corky's - you won't be disappointed, it is a wonderful dining experience.

Royal Taaj Review

by Kristine Hoskins
Director of Sales & Marketing, Midlands Restaurants

Have you ever tried Indian cuisine? Well, Royal Taaj will cater to you if you haven't

I had never eaten Indian food before we went to dine at Royal Taaj, and were unsure about what to order or how to proceed. The service was extremely personal and helpful with the menu to help us order food that was to our liking.

Royal Taaj begins all meals with papadam, which is similar to tortilla chips. Papadam is paper thin and crunchy and comes with three dipping sauces, tamarind (sweet and citrusy, sort of like duck sauce), mint (somewhat spicy but good), and onion chutney (also sweet).

My son was delighted and thought he was eating chips! With a lot of guidance, we selected Chicken 65 as our appetizer, which is marinated chicken in a garlic paste served with chef.s gravy. But I (who can not tolerate any spice) found it to be like fire on my plate! My husband, though, loved it. It was (as the menu states) EXTRA HOT.

But my palate was satiated with the arrival of the main course. I had the Tandoori Lamb Chops, which after the appetizer I was pleased to find out it was very mild, full of seasoning but not fire. The lamb was distinctive, and beautifully presented. There was an artistic display of vegetables and the rice was delivered in a beautiful bowl. The lamb was very good, fork-tender, and I enjoyed it dipped in the mint sauce from the papadam!

My husband had the Chicken Tikka Masala, which is tandoori chicken in a tomato cream sauce with a special blend of regional spices (cumin and cilantro were predominant from my taste). He ordered it medium spice and it wasn't nearly as spicy as the appetizer (thankfully). It was delicious! But the best part, the Naan . or bread baked in the tandoor (clay oven). Tender, mild, buttery, flatbread, we all ate that up quickly. If you are like I was . too afraid to try Indian food . please come down to Royal Taaj and give it a try. They are patient to newcomers and the food is unique and delicious!

HAPPY DINING! Click here for Royal Taaj's menu and directions.
